The easiest way to prepay your baseboards is to set up a set of sawhorses, layout about 8 to 10 pieces of baseboard across the two and apply primer first and allow it to dry. After the primer is dried textual part one coat of paint allowed to drive, and replete with one more coat of paint. If for any reason you can still see the woodgrain of the baseboards, adding a third or even fourth coat of paint may be necessary.

Now that you have prepainted baseboards, cut them to size, and install them. Now you have to go back and fill in all the nail holes from your installation process. Do this with wood putty or wood filler, allow it to dry and sand it smooth with a high grit sandpaper. Use about a two to a grit sandpaper for this process.

Using a caulking gun caulk the inside seams and along the top of the baseboards. If you have gaps underneath your baseboards were they meet the floor, you can also caulk the lower gaps. Finally you are ready for your touch up paint. Simply go back and paint your caulk lines and your wood filler that you use to fill the nail holes, and you’re done.
