Drywall Repair: Fixing Holes

Dry wall is a common material for constructing houses these days because it’s easy to install and the material is highly durable. It is also known as a gypsum board and it has replaced plasters in contemporary homes. Drywalls are fire resistant and it does not leave you with cracks because of its heavy paper facing. It’s no secret that most homebuilders prefer using it over plaster because of the convenience in installing. No matter how tough a material is made off, it is still prone to wear and tear. Some drywalls can be damage due to abusive usage such as exerting too much force on it thus producing holes. These holes could damage the way your house looks. It would look squeaky and old when holes are present. This could degrade the quality and marketability of your house.

Fixing these holes is not a difficult task, if you know the proper way to handle it. You can do it by yourself if the damages are not that severe. First thing to do is to check out  local hardware or home repair shops for drywall repair kits. The type of kit may vary to the type of application it specializes. Here are some tips on patching small holes in your drywall.

·    Remove or strip away loose papers or plasters on the edge of the hole to make it easier and much more effective to patch.
·    Use a sandpaper to roughen and scrape the edges of the hole.
·    Apply a self-adhesive plastic mesh tape to easily apply the patching compound.
·    Apply the spackling compound with the use of a putty knife. Fast drying compound could make it much easier. Smooth it out until the hole is tightly covered.
·    Let it dry and smoothen up the compound with the use of sand paper.
·    Prime and repair it to eliminate visibility.

Now your wall could look good as new. These are simple do it yourself steps in repairing your homes. You don’t need to spend much money on repairs unless the damage is not that critical. You just need to do your research and read stuffs on how to repair these damages. If it’s beyond your limitations then its to better ask for advice from carpenters or from drywall experts. If the damage could not be treated by repairing then that’s the time to decide on replacing that portion of the drywall.
